The right blade cuts faster, lasts longer, and keeps you safer. Here's how to pick one.
On a circular saw, fewer teeth (like a 24-tooth framing blade) cut fast for ripping and rough work, while higher tooth counts (60 or more) leave a smooth finish for trim and crosscuts. For reciprocating saws, use about 6 to 10 TPI for wood and 14 to 24 TPI for metal. Metal and non-ferrous materials need blades made specifically for them.
Thin Type 1 cut-off wheels are made for straight cuts only, so never use them to side-grind. Type 27 depressed-center grinding wheels and flap discs are for grinding, blending, and weld removal. Flap disc grit guide: 40 for heavy removal, 60 to 80 for blending, and 120 for finishing.
Every wheel and blade has a maximum RPM printed on it, and it must meet or exceed the speed of your tool. Check that the arbor size matches, keep guards in place, and wear a face shield over safety glasses. You'll find both in our safety equipment department.
Abrasive wheels wear down quickly in concrete and masonry. A diamond blade costs more upfront but lasts far longer and cuts at a consistent depth. For heavy masonry work, see our concrete cutting lineup.
Store bonded abrasive wheels in a dry place and away from temperature extremes. Throw away any wheel that has been dropped, cracked, or gotten wet. A damaged wheel can break apart at full speed.
Spartan Tool Supply carries Freud Diablo, MK Morse, Tenryu, SAIT, Milwaukee, Bosch, and Husqvarna concrete blades, all in stock for immediate pickup or fast delivery in Columbus, Ohio.
Fewer teeth cut faster and suit framing and ripping, while more teeth leave a cleaner finish for trim, cabinetry, and crosscuts. Tell us your saw and material and we'll recommend the right blade.
No. Thin cut-off wheels are designed only for straight cuts and can shatter under side pressure. Use a Type 27 grinding wheel or a flap disc for grinding and blending.
