Choose a jack rated well above the weight you'll be lifting. Low-profile jacks fit under lowered vehicles, and long-reach models get to center lift points. Always support the vehicle on jack stands rated for the load. Never work under a vehicle held up only by a jack.
Presses are rated in tons. A 20-ton press handles bearings, bushings, and ball joints on most cars and light trucks, while heavier presses are built for trucks and equipment. Use the right adapters and keep a guard in place. American Forge & Foundry and BVA Hydraulics both make heavy-duty shop presses.
