The right diamond blade or core bit depends on the material, your equipment, and whether you can use water. Here's what to consider.
Wet cutting keeps the blade cool, extends blade life, and controls dust. Dry-rated diamond blades are made for handheld saws when water isn't practical. Cut in short passes so the blade can cool. Some blades are rated for both.
OSHA's respirable crystalline silica standard for construction (29 CFR 1926.1153) requires dust controls, such as water delivery or vacuum shrouds, for many cutting and drilling tasks, and respiratory protection in some cases. Find respirators in our safety equipment department.
Segmented rims cut fast and aggressively. Turbo rims balance speed and finish. Continuous rims give chip-free cuts in tile and stone. Match the bond to the material: hard materials like cured concrete and granite need a softer bond, while abrasive materials like asphalt and block need a harder bond.
Diamond core bits drill clean holes for plumbing, electrical, and HVAC work. For smaller holes and anchors, see our SDS-plus and SDS-max bits. For cut-off wheels and grinding discs for masonry, see abrasives and cutting blades.
Let the blade do the work. Forcing it overheats the diamonds and glazes the blade. If a blade stops cutting, dress it by making a few passes through an abrasive material such as cinder block to expose fresh diamonds.
Wet cutting extends blade life and controls silica dust, making it the preferred method when water is available. Dry-rated blades are designed for handheld saws when water isn't practical. Always check the blade's rating.
Hard, dense materials like cured concrete need a softer-bond blade so fresh diamonds keep exposing. Abrasive materials like asphalt and green concrete need a harder bond to resist wear. Our team can match the right blade to your job.
